The 20th anniversary edition of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) will officially kick off on Wednesday, May 27, with an Opening Night red carpet celebration at the historic Egyptian Theatre.
This year’s festival highlights include prestigious cinematic premieres, industry development labs, and high-profile tributes to legendary industry figures.

Opening Night (May 27): Features the West Coast premiere of PATTY IS SUCH A GIRLY NAME, the acclaimed feature from award-winning Greek filmmaker Giorgos Georgopoulos. The film arrives in LA following five awards at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and 16 nominations at the 2026 Hellenic Film Academy Iris Awards. Artistic Director Aristotle Katopodis will host a post-screening Q&A with the director.
Dean Tavoularis Tribute: Prior to the Opening Night screening, LAGFF will present a special remembrance honoring Academy Award-winning Greek-American production designer Constantine “Dean” Tavoularis (The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, Bonnie and Clyde).
Closing Night (May 31): Concludes at the Egyptian Theatre with the Sundance World Cinema Audience Award winner HOLD ONTO ME by Myrsini Aristidou, followed by a live Q&A with the filmmaker.
“Now in its 20th year, LAGFF continues its mission of showcasing contemporary Greek cinema and fostering cultural exchange through film, conversation, and community engagement,” Aristotle Katopodis, LAGFF Artistic Director, said.
2026 Orpheus Award Honoree
LAGFF will present its prestigious 2026 Orpheus Award to two-time Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water), celebrating his extraordinary contribution to the emotional core of modern cinema. The ceremony will be hosted by KNX-FM Radio’s Vivianne Linou Gabriel.
The industry cornerstone of LAGFF, Discovery Days, returns as a four-day development lab for international projects spanning Greece, Canada, Iran, and Albania. The program connects selected filmmaking teams with global producers, distributors, and sales agents through tailored workshops, masterclasses, and a final presentation before an expert industry jury.
