Greek water skier, Giannis Kousathanas, was crowned World Overall Champion at the 2026 IWWF World Under-17 Waterski Championships. Held at the Lago Ahumada Nautical Stadium in Córdoba, Argentina, from March 30 to April 5, the tournament gathered over 110 elite young athletes from eighteen nations.
Kousathanas delivered a powerhouse performance defined by grit and technical precision. His dominance across the disciplines was undeniable, securing Gold medals in Slalom, Jump, and the Overall (Triathlon) category. He nearly completed a clean sweep of the podium, finishing an impressive 4th in Tricks (Figures). These results not only secured his individual legacy but also propelled Greece to the highest step of the international podium.
This victory is a testament to Kousathanas’ exceptional talent and the strategic guidance of his coach, Tanneguy Bennet. Competing against traditional powerhouses like the USA and Australia, Kousathanas proved that the future of Greek water skiing is brighter than ever.
“We extend our warmest congratulations to Giannis, Coach Bennet, and the entire support team who contributed to this monumental international achievement,” said Vouliagmeni Nautical Club. “This world title serves as an inspiration for the next generation of Greek athletes, proving that with passion and dedication, the summit of the world stage is within reach.”
