Four confirmed attacks have occurred on vessels within the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding maritime region. Among the affected vessels is one Greek-owned ship operated by a company based in Vouliagmeni.
Attacks in Strait of Hormuz
- OCEAN Electra (Greek-owned): The vessel was struck by a drone or missile. There are no reports of injuries or major structural damage, and the vessel is currently proceeding toward a safe port.
- Skylight (Palau-flagged): The Skylight was attacked approximately five nautical miles off the coast of Oman. The crew abandoned ship, and there are reports of four injuries. The vessel was previously under US sanctions for alleged links to Iran; it is believed the ship may have been targeted by US forces due to its suspected role in monitoring ship movements for the Revolutionary Guard.

- MKD Vyon: Struck at 11:50 a.m. off the coast of Oman, it sustained damage above the waterline and water ingress in the engine room. The owner has confirmed that one crew member, trapped in the engine room, has died.
- Hercules Star (Spanish-flagged): The vessel was struck twenty nautical miles off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. Further details are currently unavailable.
Calls for suspension of traffic
The logistics giant MAERSK has announced the suspension of all transits through the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely, citing safety concerns for crews, vessels, and cargo. The International Maritime Organization is advising all vessels to avoid the affected region.
Following the attacks, Greece’s Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, issued the following statement via social media on Sunday:
“The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy is continuously monitoring developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The Operations Center is in constant communication with companies that have Greek vessels in the region, providing instructions and recommendations, and informing the shipping community about developments. We are at heightened operational readiness and are doing whatever is required to ensure the maximum possible protection of Greek shipping and Greek seafarers.”
