President Donald Trump has vowed to pursue “very strong action” against Iran as reports intensify that 26-year-old protester Erfan Soltani faces imminent execution. The warning, reinforced by White House officials, marks a significant escalation in the administration’s rhetoric regarding human rights abuses in the Islamic Republic.
Soltani, whose case has sparked international outcry, was arrested during a wave of anti-government demonstrations. Human rights organizations allege that his conviction was based on “confessions” extracted under duress and followed a trial that lacked any semblance of due process.
As the deadline for his execution nears, the US President has made it clear that Washington is watching Tehran’s next move with “extreme scrutiny.”
Speaking to CBS News, Trump said of potential executions: “If they hang them, you’re going to see some things…We will take very strong action if they do such a thing.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that Iranian authorities would “pay a big price” for the killings, and urged people to “keep protesting.”
“I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY. MIGA!!!,” he added, using the acronym for a US-based Iranian opposition slogan, “Make Iran Great Again.”
Iran’s government has responded by accusing the US of seeking to “manufacture a pretext for military intervention,” warning that “this playbook has failed before.”
While the administration did not specify the exact nature of the “strong action,” diplomatic sources suggest a range of options are on the table, including sweeping new economic sanctions, the freezing of international assets, and heightened isolation. The President’s message signals a departure from traditional diplomatic channels, opting instead for a direct, public ultimatum intended to pressure the Iranian judiciary.
The situation remains fluid as international monitors continue to call for an immediate stay of execution. For Soltani, whose family has publicly pleaded for mercy, the President’s intervention represents a high-stakes gamble in a geopolitical standoff—one in which the life of a young man now hangs in the balance.
