Ekaterini Nassika, Greece’s Ambassador to the United States, has officially concluded her tenure in Washington, DC.

Ambassador Nassika‘s career in the United States began in 1989, when she arrived in Washington as a young Embassy Secretary. Following a distinguished career that saw her serve in Tirana, Brussels, and as Ambassador to the Russian Federation, she returned to Washington in 2023 to lead the mission.
In her farewell address, she noted the profound symbolism of ending her service in the same city where her diplomatic journey took off. “As I bid farewell to the United States, I close a circle that began years ago in Washington…My return here as Greece’s Ambassador, and my departure today, hold for me a deeply symbolic and moving significance.”

She played a pivotal role in deepening defense industrial cooperation, most notably through high-level forums like AUSA 2025. By hosting key receptions for the American defense industry and Greek technology firms, she helped position Greece not just as a consumer of security but as a hub for technological innovation and NATO interoperability.
Building on Greece’s role as a regional energy gateway, she worked closely with US officials to facilitate investments in energy infrastructure, supporting the diversification of Europe’s energy supply through Greek ports and pipelines. She leveraged her early experience on Capitol Hill to maintain a strong bipartisan dialogue, welcoming newly elected Greek-American members of Congress and ensuring that the Hellenic Caucus remained a powerful voice for shared interests in Washington.
A new chapter at the Maximos Mansion
While this departure marks her retirement from the formal diplomatic service, Ambassador Nassika’s expertise will remain at the heart of Greek foreign policy. According to reports, she is set to return to Athens to take on the pivotal role of Diplomatic Advisor to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In this new capacity, she will bring her extensive “front-line” experience from Moscow, NATO, and Washington directly to the Prime Minister’s office. Her deep understanding of the US political landscape—from the Oval Office to the halls of Congress—makes her a formidable asset for Greece’s strategic planning in a rapidly changing world.
The bridge of the diaspora
A hallmark of Ambassador Nassika’s time in the US was her deep engagement with the Greek-American community. She frequently described the diaspora as a “vibrant and creative community” that acts as an enduring bridge of friendship. Whether commemorating the 50th anniversary of the invasion of Cyprus or celebrating Independence Day, she ensured the Embassy remained an open home for the Omogenia.
As she prepares to advise the Prime Minister, she leaves Washington with a message of continuity. “I depart with gratitude and pride,” she stated, “and with the confidence that the bonds strengthened during this time will continue to bear fruit. Cycles may close, but relationships built with faith and consistency endure over time.”
