Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, were among the guests at a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump in New York City.

The event, held during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, formed part of the Greek delegation’s program of multilateral contacts on the sidelines of the Assembly.

Mitsotakis highlights Greece’s role in UN speech at dinner held by Trump

Earlier, the Prime Minister addressed the UN General Assembly, declaring that “the voice of Greece is now heard loud and clear.”

He emphasized that Greece is recognized as a force for stability in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean, an attractive investment destination, and a reliable partner bridging the geopolitical and energy needs of the wider region with Europe.

Mitsotakis underlined that Greece’s voice cannot be diminished “by those who wish to define it differently or belittle it,” pointing to the strengthening of the country’s defense capabilities. He also reiterated his call for Turkey to lift its casus belli in the Aegean.

On international issues, he rejected any attempt to alter internationally recognized borders in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war and urged an immediate end to the conflict in Gaza. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Greece’s support for the creation of a Palestinian state.

Mitsotakis – Erdogan meeting in Denmark canceled

Following the cancellation of Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Greek officials said it is unlikely the Prime Minister and Turkish President will meet in Copenhagen during the October 2 European Political Community summit, as Erdogan is not expected to attend.

According to Greek newspapers, government sources said that cancellations are common at such events, noting that “there was a real reason” and citing a similar change with Italy’s Giorgia Meloni. The same sources rejected speculation that Turkey’s absence is linked to tensions with Greece.

Social media users note similarities across released images

In the photo released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife are shown standing alongside US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

However, social media users have raised questions about whether Mitsotakis and other world leaders were actually photographed together with Trump, suggesting they may have been digitally inserted. Observers note that in every released image, Trump appears with the same thumbs-up gesture and identical facial expression, fueling speculation that the photos were edited to include multiple leaders.

This approach is occasionally used by high-level officials and presidential offices to illustrate attendance at large events, specifically when it is difficult to photograph all participants together.
