Thousands joined pro-Palestine rallies in many cities and towns throughout Greece on Sunday, expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza.
The rally in Athens, part of nationwide solidarity actions organized by the March to Gaza initiative, was one of more than 100 events held across the country on the same day.
Protesters chanted slogans such as “Freedom for Palestine” and “No cooperation with Israel,” sending what organizers described as a clear and powerful message of resistance to ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza.
Organizers said the aim was to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and call for increased international pressure to protect civilians and end the violence.
On Friday, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued recommendations for Israelis currently in Greece or planning to visit. The ministry advised avoiding demonstration hotspots and unplanned gatherings, refraining from public arguments or expressing political opinions in public spaces, and concealing identifying symbols.
The pro-Palestinian rallies in Greece followed demonstrations against Israeli tourists on Rhodes and Syros last month, July 2025, where locals tried to block their disembarkation from cruise ships. In the case of Syros, they were successful. The Greek government condemned the incident.
“The Greeks are a hospitable people”
Earlier, the general secretary of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece—Victor Eliezer—called on Israelis to “come to Greece and ignore the extreme cries of hatred and fanaticism.”
Eliezer told the Jerusalem Post that Jews are welcome in Greece. He said that “even religious Jews can move freely on the streets of Athens, and to date we have not received a complaint of an attack against any religious Jew.”
