Acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman recently met with Christoforos (Christopher) Papakaliatis, the visionary director behind the hit series Maestro in Blue, on the picturesque Greek island of Paxos.

Through a post on his personal Instagram account last December, Freeman shared with his 4.4 million followers not only his admiration for the hit show but also his love for the Greek island of Paxos, where the plot of Maestro (as it’s known in Greece) unfolds.
“If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching Maestro in Blue, you’re truly missing something special,” Freeman wrote. “Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Paxos—a small Greek island that’s close to my heart—this series is a masterpiece. Mark your calendars, my friends. The third and final season arrives on Netflix, on December 28th. Don’t miss it,” he said at the time.
Freeman posted his comments just as audiences in Greece were glued to their television sets Thursday night, watching the final episode of the series’ third season airing on MEGA TV. Season three premiered the first episode in Greece on December 2nd, and the entire season has been available on Netflix in Greece and Cyprus since December 3rd.
Maestro in Blue goes international through Netflix
The series premiered on MEGA TV in Greece in October 2022 and quickly became a viewer favorite. Five months later, it was picked up by Netflix for international distribution.
It is helmed, created, and written by Christoforos Papakaliatis. The Greek drama show boasts a stacked cast with prominent and celebrated Greek stars such as Christoforos Papakaliatis as Orestis, Klelia Andriolatou as Klelia, Orestis Chalkias as Antonis, and Marisha Triantafyllidou as Sophia among others.
The first season debuted on Netflix on Friday, March 17, 2023. The television series has had a very strong reception with audiences with a 97 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.4 rating on IMDB.
Following the release of the first season on Netflix, it featured in the global ten for two weeks, accumulating 20.56 viewing hours. The show featured in the top ten of TV shows in 53 countries, according to FlixPatrol, with the show doing best in countries such as Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Israel, Serbia, Romania, and Turkey.
Synopsis of Maestro in Blue, Season Three
The series follows musician Orestis, who travels to Paxos, a small island in Greece during the pandemic to direct a music festival. There, he falls for an ambitious girl, Klelia, and gets embroiled in the social problems of the local community.
The second season followed up on the murder of Charalambos, committed by Klelia’s brother, Antonis. While Antonis’ mother will go to any length to protect her son, Clelia tried to figure out why Orestis suddenly abandoned her.
Meanwhile, preparations for the music festival continued, and Orestis faced more trouble, as he was torn between his responsibility toward his wife and baby and his love for Klelia.
According to the official synopsis of the third season, after the dramatic death of Fanis, which marked the finale of the second cycle, the new episodes focus on the investigation of the police director who arrives on Paxos, determined to solve the mystery of Charalambos’ death.
At the same time, the main characters of the series do their best to hide evidence that could lead to the real culprit. Meanwhile, Orestis’ relationship with Klelia is rekindled, while viewers will find out if Antonis and Spyros will finally manage to be together.
