Nine Greek billionaires, primarily from the shipping industry, have secured spots among the world’s wealthiest individuals, according to Forbes’ latest rankings released on Tuesday.
Forbes magazine has been keeping a record of billionaires since 1987, when there were just 140 people in the world to amass this type of wealth. In their latest list, which was published on April 1st, the magazine says there are 3,028 entrepreneurs, investors, and heirs who are billionaires.
The United States remains the country with the most billionaires, at 902, followed by China with 516 and India with 205.
Elon Musk, 53, remains the wealthiest man in the world. Having co-founded seven companies including SpaceX, and xAI, he has amassed wealth worth $345.6 billion. According to estimates by Forbes, SpaceX is currently worth $350 billion. Musk owns a 42 percent stake in the company.
In second place is Mark Zuckerberg, 40, who owns Meta, a company that owns social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp. His net worth is estimated to be $216 billion. In third place is Jeff Bezos with a net worth estimated to be $208.7 billion, with most of his wealth coming from owning large amounts of Amazon stock.

The highest ranking Greek billionaire is Maria Angelicoussis at number 418, with a net worth of $7.6 billion. Angelicoussis is the CEO and owner of Angelicoussis Group, a shipping company based in Athens, Greece.
734. Vangelis Marinakis and family ($4.9 billion) / Shipping – football. Marinakis is a Greek businessman and investor, the principal shareholder of a number of companies operating in the shipping, media, and football sectors.
1462. Anna Angelicoussis and family ($2.5 billion) / Shipping.
1626. Constantinos Martinos and family ($2.2 billion) / Shipping. Martinos is the owner of Greek shipping firm Thenamaris, which has a fleet of 95 tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and LNG carriers.
1688. Marianna Latsis and family ($2.1 billion) / Finance – shipping. Latsis inherited the fortune of her late father, Greek shipping tycoon John S. Latsis alongside her siblings John and Margarita. The siblings split up the family fortune in 2019, with Marianna taking over shipping firm Latsco and divesting from the banking and real estate arms.
1947. Andreas Martinos and family ($1.8 billion) / Shipping. Martinos is the owner of Greek shipping firm Minerva Marine, which has a fleet of 71 tankers, dry cargo and container vessels.
– Athanasios Martinos and family ($1.8 billion) / Shipping. Athanasios Martinos is the owner of Greek shipping firm Eastern Mediterranean Maritime, which has a fleet of 77 tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels.

2933. Diamantis Diamantides and family ($1 billion) / Shipping. Diamantides owns Greek shipping firms Delta Tankers and Marmaras Navigation.
