Greece is witnessing a remarkable surge in new hotel openings to meet the surging tourism demand. During last week authorities green-lighted five new hotels in Santorini, Milos, Oreou Istiea. Hilton signed an agreement to add three existing hotels in the Greek capital Athens, and the Aegean island of Milos is targeted with dozens of projects already underway.
The Hilton properties are part of the Aluma Hotels and Resorts portfolio, and will join Hilton’s Curio and Tapestry brands as follows:
- Adia Aluma Athens, Curio Collection by Hilton will join the group’s portfolio this year, offering 215 rooms, a rooftop bar, restaurant and wellness facilities from its location on Omonoia Square.
- Anise Aluma Athens, Tapestry Collection by Hilton will also join in 2025 “following the completion of work”, and is located in Athen’s Evripidou district, with features including 99 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar and pool.
- Finally Skylark Aluma Athens, Tapestry Collection by Hilton will join in 2026, and is located close to Omonoia Square, with facilities including 191 rooms, a rooftop terrace and pool, wellness facilities and a restaurant and bar.
The properties will join ten Hilton-branded hotels currently operational in Greece, including the recently opened Hilton Garden Inn Athens Syggrou Avenue.
The former Hilton Athens is also being redeveloped as The Ilisian, comprising a Conrad property which is set to open this year, alongside Conrad and Waldorf Astoria branded private residences.

“Having recently introduced the Hilton Garden Inn brand to the Greek capital, and with the forthcoming opening of Conrad Athens The Ilisian, we are thrilled to be working alongside Aluma Greece IKE to add a further 500 rooms to our Athens portfolio.”
Hotel frenzy on Greece’s Milos
Worries about overtourism being set aside, Greece’s gold rush to bring in as many high-end resorts as possible for a cash bonanza has seen the island of Milos targeted with 48 projects already underway.
Often touted as an alternative to overrun Santorini just 2 ½ hours away, Milos is rapidly becoming a destination for developers and investors, with resorts occupying public beaches – and other islands are being eyed as well.
The new work on Milos could double the number of available beds as Greece is going all-out to keep bringing in tourists and more are shifting away from the usual, overwhelmed spots such as Santorini and Mykonos.
But that has put the spotlight on islands that still retain some sense of original charm and developers keen on resorts on famous beaches and reports that some usual zoning and other requirements are being bypassed.
Earlier in February Greek authorities ordered the suspension of the controversial construction of a luxury hotel on Sarakiniko, one of the island’s world-famed beaches.
