A towering apartment complex in China has become an online sensation. Regent International, the world’s largest apartment building, has caught the attention of social media users with its massive size and unique design.

Located in Qianjiang Century City, this 675-foot-tall structure was originally planned as a luxury hotel. However, it was later turned into a huge apartment complex. The S-shaped building covers 1.47 million square meters and has 39 floors. More than 20,000 people live in thousands of apartments inside this massive structure.

Regent International is designed to function like a small city. Residents have access to shopping centers, restaurants, hospitals, schools and recreational spaces. Fitness centers, food courts, grocery stores, salons and indoor swimming pools are also available. Everything people need for daily life is inside the building, reducing the need to go elsewhere.

A video of the building has gone viral on social media. The post was captioned, “More than 20,000 people are living in this world’s biggest residential building in China.”

Despite its already large population, the building has room for even more residents. It can house up to 30,000 people, meaning an additional 10,000 could still move in.

Since opening in 2013, the building has attracted a diverse group of residents. Many are young professionals just starting their careers, while others are social media influencers or entrepreneurs. The cost of living varies. Smaller apartments without windows cost around $209 (1,500 RMB) per month, while larger units with balconies can go for $558 (4,000 RMB) or more.

Regent International stands as a unique example of modern urban living, offering both convenience and challenges in one of the most densely populated residential buildings in the world.

World’s supertall residential building

Central Park Tower stands as the tallest residential building in the world. Located at 225 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, this towering skyscraper reaches a height of 1,550 feet (472.4 meters). It has 98 above-ground floors and three basement levels, though the highest floor is labeled as number 136.

It ranks as the second-tallest building in New York City and the United States, following One World Trade Center. It is also the tallest building outside of Asia by roof height.

The tower contains 179 luxury condominiums, each averaging about 5,000 square feet (460 square meters). Residents also have access to exclusive amenities, which are located on floors 14 through 16, and a private club on the 100th floor.

The development of Central Park Tower took years of planning. The land for the project was acquired in the early 2000s, but construction was delayed when two nearby buildings were considered for landmark status. After securing approval, excavation began in May 2014, and construction above ground started in early 2015.

Building the skyscraper was not without challenges. There were disputes over its cantilever design, financial difficulties and even tragic incidents, including the death of a security guard. Despite these obstacles, the tower was topped out in September 2019 and completed in 2020. The total cost of the project was an estimated $3 billion.
