Donald Trump has won the 2024 Presidential election and will return to the White House in January after defeating Kamala Harris on Tuesday.
So far, the former and future President has won all battleground states, though results are still expected from three swing states—Nevada, Michigan, and Arizona—as well as Maine. The win in Wisconsin pushed the Republican over the 270 electoral vote threshold required to win the presidency.
In typical fashion, Trump celebrated victory without waiting to officially reach the 270 electoral college vote threshold. “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected [as] your 47th president and your 45th president,” he told supporters in Florida.
“I will fight for you, for your family and your future every single day,” he added. “I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”
“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate—wow that’s good,” he told his supporters.
Trump says he’ll bring “every ounce of spirit and fight” to the White House and that being President is the “most important job in the world.” He adds that he’ll run his government on the motto: “Promises made, promises kept.”
Trump praises Elon Musk
Trump praised tech billionaire Elon Musk as a “super genius.” He told his supporters that Musk’s Starlink satellite service helped save “a lot of lives” during Hurricane Helene, which devastated the southeastern United States in October.
“I said, Elon, they need it really, really badly in North Carolina. Can you get it? He had that there so fast, it was incredible. It saved a lot of lives. They saved a lot of lives,” Trump said.
Trump then described Musk to the audience as “a character, he’s a special guy, he’s a super genius. We have to protect our geniuses, we don’t have that many of them.”
Trump flips North Carolina and Georgia en route to the White House
The Republican candidate has flipped North Carolina with its 16 electoral college votes. While North Carolina’s win is huge for Republicans, it is in line with how the state has voted in the past. Trump won North Carolina in both 2016, with a margin of 3.66 percent, and 2020, with a smaller margin of 1.34 percent.
He also won in Georgia, another battleground state. Georgia is one of the 10 states with the most electoral votes, making it a key state in the 2024 presidential election. The state has 16 electoral votes which are tied for the eighth-most in the country, alongside North Carolina.

Kamala Harris has won Virginia and Hawaii after previously picking up New Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, and Maine’s first congressional district.
Donald Trump has won Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa and the third congressional district in Nebraska.
Trump, who survived two assassination attempts this year, has vowed to seal the border and has proposed tax cuts worth trillions.
CNN reported earlier that if Trump wins on Tuesday, he will be only the second defeated President to win a nonconsecutive term. He will complete one of the most staggering political comebacks ever after trying to torch democracy to stay in power following the 2020 elections, being convicted of a crime, and escaping two attempts on his life this year.
Republicans take control of the Senate
The Republican party has retaken the majority in the Senate, the Associated Press reports, after picking up seats in Ohio and West Virginia and fending off challenges to their candidates in Texas and Nebraska.
Republicans will control Congress’s upper chamber for the first time in four years. Should Donald Trump win, they will be in a position to confirm his Supreme Court justices, federal judges, and appointees to cabinet posts. If Kamala Harris wins the White House, they can hold up her appointees or block them outright.
