Newly nominated vice presidential candidate JD Vance made his rally debut by attacking Kamala Harris and calling President Biden “a quitter” after he decided to exit the presidential race.
“History will remember Joe Biden as not just a quitter, which he is, but one of the worst presidents of the United States of America,” Vance said. “But my friends, Kamala Harris is a million times worse and everybody knows it.”
“She signed up for every single one of Joe Biden’s failures and she lied about his mental capacity to serve as president,” he said.
Biden’s record is Harris’s record, the Republican says
Vance, a US Marine Corps veteran, who has been serving as the junior senator from Ohio since 2023, urged voters not to give Harris a shot at the White House as Democrats continue to rally around her candidacy.
“We got to kick Kamala Harris out of the Oval Office. Don’t give her a chance. Don’t give her a chance to run away from the Biden record. The Biden record is the Kamala Harris record,” Vance said.
Vance characterized Harris as “even more extreme than Biden” and claimed that Harris voted to eliminate the filibuster and “wants to ban fracking” as well as “totally decriminalize illegal immigration.”
He especially focused on her handling of the US-Mexico border. Biden deputized Harris in 2021 to look at the root causes of migration in Central American countries, including lack of economic opportunities and drug violence.
“The border crisis is a Kamala Harris crisis,” he continued. “Let’s never stop reminding her of that fact.”
JD Vance will be key to winning the Rust Belt
President Trump’s campaign and the GOP see JD Vance as a key figure in their bid to win the Rust Belt. The Rust Belt is a geographic region that spans from New York to the Midwest. It includes key states for the Democrats, such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
JD Vance, being a mid-Westerner himself, is expected to have significant rallying power in this key region, particularly with blue-collar workers. Middletown is also part of the Rust Belt. It is located between Cincinnati and Dayton and is in a strategic location for this year’s upcoming presidential election.
Vance has been called a national conservative and right-wing populist, but he describes himself as a member of the post-liberal right.
On social issues, he has promoted strongly conservative policies, opposing abortion, same-sex marriage and gun control. He has also proposed banning transgender healthcare for minors.
Vance differs from mainstream Republican views on market interventions, taxes, the minimum wage, unionization, tariffs, and antitrust policy, while opposing American military aid to Ukraine.
