Royal Caribbean International has unveiled plans for its latest addition to the fleet, the Icon of the Seas. Set to debut this year, this colossal vessel is aimed to make history as one of the largest and most extravagant ships ever constructed.

With its arrival scheduled for late 2023, the Icon of the Seas aims to redefine the concept of a family vacation. Packed with an impressive array of amenities, Royal Caribbean International envisions this ship as the ultimate destination for unparalleled enjoyment.

Royal Caribbean International’s Chief Product Innovation Officer, Jay Schneider, expressed their ambitious goal of crafting the ultimate family vacation.

During an interview with Travel + Leisure, Schneider emphasized their determination to create the finest vacation experience on the planet.

The Icon of the Seas ship has been designed to surpass any previous accomplishments and compete with the very best vacation destinations worldwide.

Amenities on ‘Icon of the Seas’

Icon of the Seas is the pioneer of a new set of ships called the Icon Class. These ships are packed with incredible attractions and amenities.

On the Icon, you can expect to find an immense waterpark, seven swimming pools, a special area exclusively for luxurious suites, and an enhanced “Central Park” with lush live plants.

Moreover, it includes a bar solely dedicated to frozen drinks, a unique swim-up cocktail spot (a first for this cruise line), a wide selection of restaurants, a rock-climbing wall, and an impressive 55-foot indoor waterfall.

In an email sent to T+L, Michael Bayley, the President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, reflected on the extensive journey of over five years dedicated to the design of Icon. Moreover, he shared their vision of crafting the ultimate family vacation experience.

Bayley expressed that the ship encompasses everything one could desire in a getaway, offering a comprehensive range of amenities and activities. Following the challenging years everyone has faced, he noted that this extraordinary experience surpasses the expectations of adventure-seekers and exceeds their wildest imaginations.

Total of 2,805 staterooms across 28 room categories

The Icon is designed to cater to a large number of guests, with a total of 2,805 staterooms spread across 28 unique room categories.

One notable option offered by Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is the “Ultimate Family Townhouse,” a remarkable three-story accommodation that comes with its very own white-picket fence and mailbox.

However, it’s important to note that the significance of this mega-ship goes beyond mere numbers, as emphasized by Schneider, chief product innovation officer at RCI.

Schneider highlighted the extensive creative design process that drew upon 50 years of innovation. Additionally, the Icon’s development was influenced by the collective wisdom gained from previous ship classes.

Moreover, when asked about comparisons to the previous new class or other ship classes, Schneider firmly stated that such comparisons were not applicable.
