Miltiadis “Miltos” Tentoglou achieved the furthest long jump performed so far this year. During the Toruń meeting in Poland, he jumped 8.40 meters, securing victory and setting a new record for the event.

The record-setting jump in Poland is another strong performance from Tentoglou, who won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Greek Olympic and world indoor champion won the second of his two European indoor titles in Torun in 2021 and continued that fine form with a performance that secured him victory by 23cm, Sweden’s world indoor silver medallist Thobias Montler taking the runner-up spot with a 8.17m leap.

Tentoglou decided to pass two of his attempts and managed to surpass 8.20m in three of the four tries he took. His 8.40m came in the second round.

“I am very happy with the result today,” he said. “I came here knowing I could jump far.”

Miltos Tentoglou puts on world-leading performance

Miltos Tentoglou leaped forward with another excellent performance in Poland at the Toruń meeting for the World Masters Athletics Indoor Athletics Championship.

By jumping 8.40 meters, he not only set a record for the event but also performed the longest jump in the sport so far this year.

He won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a jump of 8.41 meters. In 2022, Tentoglou became the World indoor champion jumping the current Greek indoor record of 8.55 meters, which places him sixth on the world indoor all-time list, and took silver at the outdoor World Championships. He holds an outdoor personal best of 8.60 m (28 ft 2+1⁄2 in).

Tentoglou has won four consecutive European titles: at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, where he became the youngest Greek man to win a continental gold, the 2019 European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, the 2021 European Indoor Championships in Toruń and at the 2022 European Championships in Munich, where he set a championship record in the process. He is the 2022 Diamond League long jump champion.
