The two tech giants, Microsoft and Google, having a long history of tussling, are facing up once again – shaping the future of the search.
Despite Google’s hasty effort to announce its own Artificial Intelligence system, “Bard,” Microsoft has stepped up its game and taken the lead by partnering up with OpenAI. This is the company that was responsible for the creation of ChatGPT, which has taken the world by a storm.
Microsoft heavily investing in AI
Microsoft has the intention of revolutionizing the conventional algorithmic search engines that have been in use for the last 20 years. As a result, it is using AI, which will result in it being far more powerful than competing search engines.
“Rapid innovation is going to come. A race starts today in terms of what you can expect. We are going to move fast. For us, every day we want to bring out new things. And most importantly we want to have a lot of fun innovating in search,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Microsoft has taken a major leap forward with its search engine, Bing, with the unveiling of its Prometheus Model. This cutting-edge model has a multitude of elements targeted at boosting the accuracy, relevance, and safety of responses. This promises to transform the way people search the web and usher in a new era of internet searching.
Gone are the days when users are bombarded with an endless stream of links that may or may not be relevant to their search query. With Bing’s Prometheus Model, users will now be presented with a dual interface that showcases traditional web links on the left and AI-powered answers specifically curated to address their questions on the right.
“I think this is the beginning of a very new era,” Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI said. He further said, “[Microsoft and OpenAI] share a deep sense of responsibility in ensuring that AI is deployed safely.”
Google’s take on this tussle
Google has entered the AI chatbot arena with Bard, a sophisticated conversational AI service fueled by LaMDA technology. This new development will rival Microsoft’s ChatGPT, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT series of AI language models. Google has indicated that access to Bard will be expanded in the near future.
The tech giant has also made a substantial investment of $300 million in Anthropic, a cutting-edge AI firm founded by former OpenAI researchers. Anthropic specializes in AI language models and has created its own competitor to ChatGPT, known as Claude.
Although the chatbot is currently not available to the public, Anthropic has recently announced that Google Cloud is its preferred cloud provider. This is similar to how Microsoft is OpenAI’s exclusive cloud provider due to a substantial multibillion-dollar investment.

With Google and Microsoft in fierce competition, it is clear that this battle for AI search dominance will not be a cakewalk. Given their history of intense rivalry, it’s possible that this competition may escalate to a higher level of animosity.
