A newborn baby was rescued from the rubble of his home in northern Syria following the massive earthquake, but his mother died.

Despite the most unfavorable conditions, medics north of the city of Aleppo were able to deliver the baby and take it out from under the rubble to safety, but could not save his mother.

The heart-wrenching moment was captured by video.

Reports say that the baby happens to be the only survivor in the family as all of his siblings also lost their lives in the disaster.

In a similar incident recorded on Monday, a child was saved from the rubble of a building that collapsed in Syria.

Footage shows a rescue team searching in the rubble of a building in Syria’s AzazReuters reports.

The combined death toll in Turkey and Syria exceeds 5,000 after two powerful earthquakes on Monday within the space of 12 hours.

As the authorities and first responders struggle to care for survivors in Turkey and Syria, concerns are growing that winter weather conditions will make it even more difficult for earthquake survivors in the coming hours and days.
