The Oscar nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards, set to take place on March 12th, have been unveiled, with the full list now available to the public.

The Academy Award of Merit, better known as the Oscar, is up for grabs in twenty-three categories. Actors, directors, producers, and technical staff working in the film industry across the world covet the prestigious Oscar accolade.

The first Oscars ceremony was held ninety-three years ago in 1929. This year, the ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, where the awards have been held since 2001. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host for a third time.

Oscar nominations 2023 at a glance

Everything Everywhere All At Once is leading the race with a total of eleven nominations. In second place just behind the sci-fi indie is The Banshees Of Inisherin and All Quiet On The Western Front with nine nominations each. The biopic Elvis is another favorite with critics, having garnered eight Oscar nominations.

This year, the Oscar nominations appear to reflect films popular with the public. Most years, blockbusters tend to perform less well with critics, but this year could be different. Last year’s most widely watched movies, including Avatar: The Way Of Water, Top Gun: Maverick, and Elvis have all received nominations.

Avatar: The Way of Water was 2022’s biggest financial success and broke box office records with sales in excess of two billion dollars. Top Gun: Maverick was the other major financial winner, with the Tom Cruise film raking in about $1.5 billion.
