Two Russian missiles are reported to have missed their target in Ukraine and hit a farm in Poland instead.

According to CNN, the projectiles landed at a small landholding in Przewodów near the Polish border with Ukraine. The news agency also reported that two people died.

Collateral damage

It’s unclear where exactly the missiles came from although U.S. state officials stated that it is in collaboration with allies and the Polish government to ascertain the reason for the strike, CNBC stated. NATO is also still waiting for more details as well before making an announcement on the origins of the projectiles.

Evident is the fact that they hit Przewodów just as Russia launched a military attack against Western Ukraine, where the missiles left a deep impression upon impact, which also flipped over farm vehicles at the location.

Moscow rejected reports of stray Russian missiles as deliberate provocation.

In response, Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland’s prime minister, has purportedly called for the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defense Affairs to convene “as a matter of urgency,” Piotr Müller, a government spokesman, said. The conference was scheduled for 9:00 Central European Standard time, the UK Express relayed.

U.S. unites with Poland and its allies

The TV broadcaster also announced that in an AP report on the situation, President Biden was working with NATO partners and the Polish government to address the situation.

Vendant Patel, state department deputy spokesman, put it more clearly when he told the U.S. and international media at today’s press briefing:

We have seen these reports and are working with the Polish government and our NATO partners to gather more information. I can’t confirm the reports or any details at this time but I can assure you we will determine what happened and what appropriate next steps would be.

If the investigations do definitely prove they were Russian missiles, it will not be the first time there have been accusations of killing civilians for Russia. In April, they were accused of killing dozens after an attack on a Ukraine train station.

There has also been talk recently of war atrocities committed by Russian soldiers during the invasion. World leaders have discussed the fact that President Vladimir Putin is creating the conditions for nuclear Armageddon as well as starting a 3rd World War.

“This is a very significant escalation. We must act.”

Leaders from the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia expressed harsh words of criticism for Russia’s unprecedented missile attack, the news network CNBC reported.

Their pronouncements referenced the collective defense agreement of NATO to which they all belong, CNBC also said.

The Latvian Foreign Minister of Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs tweeted:

Russian missiles hitting the territory of the NATO member is a very dangerous escalation by the Kremlin, #Latvia expresses full solidarity with our ally Poland and will support any action deemed appropriate by Poland. Russia will bear full responsibility for all the consequences.

“Every inch of #NATO territory must be defended!” Gitanas Nauseada, President of Lithuania, tweeted.

CNBC stated it was concerned about “news from Poland tonight on at least two explosions. Keeping a close contact with our Polish friends.”

The leaders of G-20 also drafted a declaration severely condemning the military attack on a member county of the EU.

Russia denies accusations

Russia has reputed all allegations of an intentional military airstrike directed at Ukraine’s border and the country’s defense ministry published an official statement in response later the same day.

That proclamation came with following addendum as well:

The statements of the Polish media and officials about the alleged fall of ‘Russian’ missiles in the area of the settlement of Przewodow is a deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation…There were no strikes made on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border.

As disclosed by CNN, the Russian defense ministry likewise stated that any photos “from the scene in the village of Przewodów have nothing to do with Russian weapons.”

This is a developing story.
