A whale’s majestic move has brought a dramatic end to a marine rescue mission off the coast of Texada Island in Western Canada.

The mammal was intertwined last Friday in the ropes of a large buoy from prawn-harvesting gear.

Canadian officials dispatched a marine rescue team on October 14, 2022 after receiving multiple calls about a humpback whale entangled in three hundred feet (ninety-one meters) of fishing gear and a buoy.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Marine Mammal Rescue team responded and followed the whale. After nearly five hours, they managed to cut the whale loose with the help of local fishing vessels and captains.

It was an “incredi-blow” sight to see, as the ocean giant helped out the crew by pulling this dramatic maneuver. Below is the video depicting the amazing feat of the whale.

According to Lara Sloan, a communications advisor for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, debris is a real problem for marine wildlife.

“The public can help prevent entanglements by cutting packing material, banding, rope and other looped material before disposing of it, and by not be disposing of these materials in the marine environment,” she told FOX Weather.

Sloan encourages people to report any marine mammal in distress within Canadian waters by calling The Marine Mammal Incident Reporting Hotline at 1-800-465-4336.
