Athens Flying Week Marks 10th Anniversary with Spectacular Air Show

The largest air show in Greece, Athens Flying Week (AFW) 2017, is taking off for its 10th anniversary from Tanagra Air Force Base on Saturday.

The Athens Flying Week attracts thousands of visitors each September, including corporate customers, families with children, tourists from all over the country and abroad, as well as military personnel.

Visitors will have the chance to witness the most famous aircraft’s takeoffs and landings, participate in aeromodelling demonstrations, explore the trade fair and splurge on unique purchases and learn about the various types of aviation training from aviation schools and aeroclubs.

Athens Flying Week features aerobatic teams from abroad

The show will feature, among others, F-15s from the Royal Saudi Air Force and the Swiss Air Force’s F-18 Hornet demonstration aircraft. From the French Air Force, the Rafale Solo will also participate in the demonstrations.

Also at Tanagra will be the aerobatic team of “Jordanian Hawks” who, according to the organizers, have won the award for the best air show by a foreign team three times at the Royal International Air Tattoo in England. Also, the “Orlik” acrobatic team will participate from Poland.

Other participants include the Flying Bulls with an aerobatic helicopter, the single-engine Silver Chicken and the aerobatic Glider of Luca Berdosio.

The Hellenic Air Force will also participate with Rafale and F-16 jets. The Army Air Force will showcase its AH-64 “Apache” helicopters. The Hellenic Navy will participate with the  AB-212 and S-70 Aegean Hawk helicopters.
