Passengers traveling with Emirates will have access to eight new Greek destinations, following a codeshare agreement with Aegean Airlines, publicized on Monday.

The Greek airports being added to Emirates’ network, operated by Aegean Airlines via Athens, are Kerkyra, Chania, Irakleion, Mikonos, Thira, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, and Alexandroupolis.

The agreement between the two airlines also provides for the addition of eight European routes via Athens to their joint network, pending regulatory agreement.

Emirates’ increased connectivity with Greece

“Emirates is activating a new codeshare partnership today with Aegean Airlines, allowing its customers to benefit from increased connectivity to eight Greek destinations via Athens, using a single ticket,” the UAE airline said in a press release on Tuesday.

The placement of Emirates’ code on Aegean Airlines operated flights will provide customers with “a convenient and seamless booking experience and one consistent baggage policy,” it added.

Under the codeshare agreement, Aegean Airlines will also place its code on Emirates-operated flights between Dubai and Athens, allowing passengers of the Greek airline to benefit from smooth connections to Dubai and onward.

Passengers can already book their travel itineraries on either airline’s websites, as well as through traditional or online travel agents.

Additional routes agreement in the works

Starting October 2022, Emirates and Aegean Airlines plan to further increase their joint codeshare network to include eight more European regional routes via Athens, including Bucharest, Belgrade, and Naples as well as westwards on Emirates’ flights to Newark, USA from Athens and New York JFK from Milan.

These additional codeshare routes will be subjected to the reception of necessary regulatory approvals, the press release points out.

Aegean Airlines has been honored for the tenth consecutive year and eleventh time in the past twelve years with the 2021 Skytrax World Airline award and the Best Regional Airline in Europe.

Aegean also recently received a 4-star award from Skytrax in the COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating, which certifies the implementation of the highest standards and best practices proposed by the World Health Organization, ICAO, and IATA for the protection of its passengers and crew.
