Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis star, took home the trophy at the Mallorca Championships on Saturday after defeating Roberto Bautista Agut.

Saturday’s win provided the 23-year-old Greek player with a grass-court title just before Wimbledon starts on Monday.

Tsitsipas defeated Spanish player Bautista Agut 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) in Mallorca, providing him with his ninth career title, the second of this season, and the fortieth win of the season.

Bautista Agut, who is ranked twentieth, has ten career titles and had he won, would have received his second title of the season. Tsitsipas currently sits at sixth in the rankings.

The Greek star will be facing Swiss player Alexander Ritschard during the first round at Wimbledon.

Tsitsipas is the highest-ranking Greek tennis player in history

Tsitsipas defended his title and won his second consecutive Monte Carlo Masters 1000 cup in April after competing against Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the highest-ranked Greek player in history.

He won his first match on the ATP Tour in late 2017 and quickly ascended the ATP rankings the following year.

The Greek player reached three tour-level finals in 2018 to win his first title at the Stockholm Open. With his runner-up finish at the Canadian Open, he became the youngest player to defeat four top-ten opponents in a single tournament.

He has been ranked as high as world No. 3 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he first achieved in August 2021.

As the 2019 ATP Finals champion, he became the youngest winner of the year-end championships in eighteen years.
