The jury reached a verdict in the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial on Wednesday.

The jury ruled in Depp’s favor, meaning that Heard did defame her ex-husband when she claimed he abused her, after three days of deliberations.

Depp sued Heard for defamation for $50 million after his ex-wife published an Op-ed in The Washington Post in which she claimed that she was a victim of domestic abuse. While she did not directly accuse Depp of violence in the piece, it was strongly hinted that the actor was involved.

Heard claimed that Depp, to whom she was married for two years, was physically and sexually abusive to her throughout their relationship. Depp, for his part, denied the accusations and claimed that he had been physically abused by his wife.

After being sued by Depp, Heard filed a counter suit for $100 million, claiming that she lost money and career opportunities after her divorce and subsequent abuse allegations against Depp.

Verdict found in Depp vs Heard case

The trial, which has been live streamed in its entirety, has become a public spectacle. Millions of viewers tuned in to the trial to hear the details surrounding the collapse of a celebrity marriage and the dramatic abuse allegations.

Considering the celebrity of the two parties, it may not come as a surprise that two factions—one that supports Depp and the other that back Heard—have cropped up.

Fans of Depp have created videos, posts, and hashtags to support the actor, and the same applies to fans of Heard.

Videos of reactions to the trial or clips featuring particularly dramatic or noteworthy moments have racked up millions of views across the internet, and the internet is split regarding their opinions on the case.
