Lamda Development unveiled the proposed Hellinikon Commercial Hub on Tuesday, a state-of-the-art commercial, leisure, and business destination that will be part of the massive Hellinikon regeneration project at the former Athens airport.

Lamda has promised to start construction of the Hellinikon Project in February of 2022.

It constitutes the largest greenfield urban infrastructure development investment in Europe, specifically planned to trigger significant new investments in tourism, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation, and the environment, which are expected to result in positive impacts, not only for the region of Attica but for the whole country.

The Commercial Hub will extend to more than 185,000 square meters (almost 2 million square feet). It will consist of the largest mall in Greece, including a next-generation retail park with big-box stores, as well as state-of-the-art office spaces. Right next to it, an iconic mixed-use tower will be developed that will house a hotel, offices, and apartments.

It will also offer options for dining, entertainment, and wellness, with exhibitions, concerts, gyms, gaming corners, cinemas, children’s recreation areas, and more, which will be available even after commercial stores have closed.

The company says it is a pioneering ecosystem that introduces a new lifestyle philosophy in shopping, entertainment, and work.

“The Hellinikon Commercial Hub is a destination of the future; in a few years it will become Greece’s most modern commercial and business hub; a popular attraction for citizens from across the country and, of course, for the one million tourists that will be visiting The Hellinikon every year,” said Lamda Development CEO Odisseas Athanasiou during an online presentation held by the company.

The Chief Development Officer of Lamda Development, Melina Paizi, pointed out that “The Hellinikon Commercial Hub is one of the most impressive destinations to be created at the former airport. It will stand out in terms of aesthetics and for its hybrid design, combining indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as for the use of the latest technologies. It will also be a pioneer in sustainability, deploying the most advanced technologies and smart solutions to reduce its environmental footprint.”

The Commercial Hub was designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Aedas, based in Hong Kong, which has led significant projects around the world.

The mall will be constructed along Vouliagmenis Avenue within the next five years, Lamda said.

The Commercial Hub will also feature modern office spaces measuring 27,500 square meters (296,007 square feet) that will house the headquarters of Piraeus Bank. In the same area, a state-of-the-art 150-meter (492-foot) high mixed-use tower will be developed that will house a hotel, offices, and apartments.

The Business Center, to be created at Hellinikon in the coming years, will become the heart of Greece’s commercial and business life, bringing significant benefits for the area and the entire Attica region, Lamda says.
