Milwaukee Bucks’ star player Giannis Antetokounmpo has bought a stake in the Milwaukee Brewers, the Major League Baseball team announced Friday.

“This is a dream come true for a kid from Sepolia, Athens, Greece, born from immigrant parents. I could have never imagined I would be in this position,” said Antetokounmpo at a news conference announcing his involvement. He was wearing a number 34 Brewers jersey, the same iconic number he wears with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Mike Attanasio, the principal owner of the Brewers, brimmed with excitement over having Antetokounmpo on board: “We are honored to have Giannis join our team of Milwaukee Brewers investors,” he said in a statement. “Giannis is a great athlete, a world champion, and a true local hero with international renown.”

The 6-foot-11 NBA Champion is the first individual investor to buy into the team since Attanasio purchased controlling interest of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005. Antetokounmpo had already finalized the agreement with Attanasio back in May, but decided to wait until after the NBA Championship Finals to make his announcement.

Now Antetokounmpo had returned to Milwaukee with the NBA trophy — and he’s ready to make his involvement with the city’s other sports franchise known: “I want to be involved in the community as much as possible. I know Milwaukee invested a lot in me, and I want to invest a lot of me back into the city of Milwaukee.”

Asked at the news conference about the feeling of coming back to Milwaukee a champion and if he could impart that experience to the Brewers, Antetokounmpo said “It’s hard to get it done, it’s hard to get there. But once you accomplish that, it’s the best feeling ever. It’s the best feeling ever. You always remember what it took to get there. And you create this bond with your teammates for the rest of your life. It’s an addictive feeling.”

Although Antetokounmpo said that “Milwaukee made me who I am today,” the star still has a lot of love for his hometown roots in Greece. The “Greek Freak” and his brother Thanasis, who also plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, were pictured holding their NBA Finals trophies high at the Parthenon in Athens earlier this month, having made the journey back to Greece to celebrate the Bucks’ NBA Championship win.

The Antetokounmpos climbed Athens’ most iconic landmark at the Acropolis to salute their Greek heritage with basketball’s most coveted trophy. “We’re going to take it everywhere, to Sepolia, Zografou, to all the places we grew up in,” Antetokounmpo said, proudly referring to the trophy they brought with them.
