A Greek school in Athens is the the first in the world to send material — including texts, images and personal testimonies — to the moon, through an upcoming space mission by the company SpaceX.
The Moraitis School announced the launch of a new educational program on space exploration recently, having secured an exclusive collaboration with Galactic Legacy Labs LLC.
The program, called Moraitis Moon Landing, concerns all levels, and will start at the end of January, continuing until the end of March.
Galactic Legacy Labs, through the “Lunarprise” program, has invested in the next unmanned mission of Space X to the Moon and has the right to leave there a small “ark” recorded on nickel microdisks containing information from the Earth.
Beginning on a unique journey
The Moraitis School, located in Athens, has secured the right to send material with this mission.
“We are about to start a unique journey and launch a new educational program on space exploration. Our school will be the first school in the world to send material to the Moon!” the School announced in a recent statement.
The aim of the curriculum is to introduce students to the historical, scientific, technological, and philosophical aspects of space exploration.
The Moon, as the closest celestial body to earth, is a key trigger for man’s quest into space. This natural satellite of the earth has sparked much human scientific thought throughout the ages, and its conquest was one of the most important historical moments of humanity.
Children, through individual and group work, creative exercises, presentations and discussions, will become familiar with scientific concepts and will refer to skills that are necessary for space exploration such as mental resilience and ingenuity, the Moraitis School says in a statement.
