A 27-year-old Syrian man charged with two crimes linked to ISIS terror attacks was led to prison after his testimony to the public prosecutor on Tuesday, during which he denied being an ISIS fighter.
The Syrian was remanded into custody by the unanimous decision of the prosecutor and examining magistrate after his testimony, during which he completely changed his initial testimony to police last week, following his arrest.
The suspect had originally confessed to police that he was indeed an ISIS member and pointed himself out in a video recording of ISIS fighters murdering civilians in 2014.
In testimony before the magistrate, however, he recanted and denied all the charges, claiming that the confession was extracted by the use of torture.
The charges against the 27-year-old, who was residing at the Eleonas refugee and migrant hosting facility in Attica, are for participation in a terror organization and direct involvement in murder as an act of terror.
Crucial to the course of the investigation will be the results of the forensics examination from cell phones and other electronic devices that were found in the container where he was living.
