A tourist from Romania who tested positive for Covid-19 blatantly disregarded safety protocols after reportedly traveling around the island of Crete for at least 72 hours after her arrival.
The traveler had come to Greece with the intent of spending a relaxing summer vacation on one of the country’s most popular islands. After arriving at Heraklion International Airport, she was administered a coronavirus test as specified by the strict protocols set up by the Greek government.
After checking in, the tourist was then transported to the hotel that she had booked back in her hometown in Romania, in order to be isolated there for 24 hours while awaiting the test results.
When the tourist had arrived at the hotel, however, she saw that it was closed. In response, the traveler found another available hotel to stay at through a tourist office.
The authorities had gone to the first hotel in order to inform the Romanian tourist about her test results, which had unfortunately come back positive. When the officials arrived, however, the tourist was unable to be located, because they had not been notified about the change in hotels.
After finally tracking down the tourist to the correct hotel, the authorities were stunned to realize that she had left those premises to go explore the island, further defying all the instructions she had been given upon arrival.
According to the tourist, she simply didn’t want to spoil her vacation, and was reported to have traveled around the island for approximately 72 hours. The Romanian traveler was eventually found and convinced to return to her quarantine hotel.
This incident has worried many, both authorities and natives on the island, especially since just a couple days prior, two other tourists tested positive for the virus after being completely asymptomatic.
Those individuals were immediately transferred to a quarantine hotel in Hersonissos.
