An unknown number of individuals who are currently living at the Ritsona migrant and refugee camp on the Greek island of Euboea attempted to escape from the camp on Thursday night and Friday morning, breaking the quarantine of the facility.
According to media reports from Greece’s newsit and ethnos websites, the individuals, mainly of a younger age, may indeed somehow have managed to leave the camp during the night and into Friday morning.
There has still been no official information on the incident made public by the police, whose forces are currently encircling and guarding the camp; thus no one can be sure about the exact situation at the present time.
There is also conflicting information about the number of those who left and the number of those who may have been forced to return to the quarantined camp.
Several Greek media outlets are reporting that those who attempted and managed to escape were soon located by the police and returned to the camp.
SKAI TV reported on Friday afternoon that at least three individuals have been brought back to the camp by police forces.
It is noted that a total of twenty-three asylum-seekers from the Ritsona camp on the island of Euboea have tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, leading to the state imposing a quarantine on the facility for fourteen days.
