Greece to Clap From Balconies for Healthworkers Battling Coronavirus

Greeks are called through the social media to show their gratitude to health personnel on the coronavirus frontline by applauding from their balconies on Sunday at 9 p.m.
“We applaud for five minutes the people who are fighting for us. The health personnel. We want our applause to be heard at every hospital so they can take courage for the days to come,” says a message that is spreading through Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms.
The message has been adopted by many personalities in Greece, including the wife of PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotaki.

Greeks are called to follow the example of Spain where families came out on to balconies, others reached out of windows to cheer and clap amid shouts of “Viva los medicos” – Long Live Doctors!.
The spontaneous act of gratitude came at 10 p.m. on Saturday, just minutes after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez delivered a televised address to the nation informing them that everyone would be confined to their homes except to make short trips to buy supplies.

Residents in Italy have also shown their gratitude to health personnel and their defiance of coronavirus by singing from their balconies.
The nationwide events were coordinated in the locked-down countries through social media.
