PASOK Conference Concludes Works; Gennimata Remains President

Fofi Gennimata, the Leader of PASOK party and the KINAL alliance

The two-day works of the conference of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement – PASOK party were concluded on Sunday afternoon in Athens, Greece.
The historic center-left party, that governed Greece for more than 25 years since its foundation in 1974, held its eleventh conference amid in-party disputes about its political role and direction.
The PASOK party is currently the biggest comprising party of the ”Movement for Change” – KINAL political alliance.
The KINAL alliance currently includes PASOK and the Movement of Democratic Socialists, a small party founded by former PASOK leader and Prime Minister George Papandreou.
In the last national elections of July 2019, the KINAL alliance took 8.1 percent of the vote, electing 22 MPs. It’s currently the third-largest Parliamentary group in Greece.
The conference of the party on Sunday concluded by approving its new statute.
According to the new party provisions, all-party committees of PASOK will have to be the same as those currently established by the KINAL alliance.
This means that Fofi Gennimata, currently the President both of the alliance of KINAL and PASOK, will continue to be the President of both until at least 2021, when KINAL will hold its next conference.
