Germany Rejects Greece's Demand for War Reparations

Germany officially rejected Greece’s demand for war reparations.
In June of this year, Greece once again asked Germany to return billions of euros lost as a result of the German occupation of Greece during World War II.
Nazi occupiers took billions of euros from Athens during the years of the occupation between 1941 and 1944.
The Greek Embassy to Berlin sent a note verbale to the country’s Foreign Ministry in June, asking for a negotiation to begin so that Greek demands could be met, as they are ”of particular importance to the Greek people, as a moral and material issue.”
However, on Friday, the German Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Greek Embassy, rejecting the Greek demand.
The German side argues that the issue was resolved decades ago, and no reparation is owed to Greece.
