Turkey Issues New NAVTEX off the Coast of Cyprus

Ankara issued a new NAVTEX blocking an area near Cyprus‘ northern coast on Thursday.
Turkey says that it intends to conduct exploratory drilling in the broader area of the Gulf of Alexandretta, using the research vessel ”Rowan Norway.”
”Rowan Norway” is a Norwegian vessel that the Turkish Petroleum International Company has rented to conduct its energy resource exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The new NAVTEX blocks off the sea area from May 29 until June 15.
Earlier in May, Turkey had issued another NAVTEX blocking off parts of the Eastern Mediterranean, some of which overlapped with the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, sparking a barrage of negative reactions and statements of condemnation from the international community.
