The Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel & Tourism Agencies revealed on Friday that thus far, an increase of approximately fifteen percent has been recorded in bookings by Greeks for Easter vacations in Greece or abroad.
The booking figures seen so far indicate much stronger consumer confidence, which results in more people deciding to travel, either in Greece or elsewhere, to celebrate Easter.
Greece’s popular domestic Easter destinations such as the islands of Corfu, Cephalonia, Zante, Patmos Crete and Syros are showing an impressively strong demand.
However, destinations on the mainland have increased in popularity this year as well, with places such as Porto Heli, Pelion, Metsovo and Ioannina finding themselves on top of the Easter travel list.
Trips abroad have also seen an increased demand of around ten percent, according to figures from FedHATTA.
The most popular foreign destination for Greeks at Easter time is Israel, with the city of Jerusalem being on top of the list.
Other destinations which figure high on the preferences of Greek travelers include Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Dubai and Istanbul.
This year’s Orthodox Easter is celebrated on April 28, which is one week later than the Catholic and Protestant Easter in the West.
