Greece Opens Bidding for Hellenikon Casino

The Hellenic Gaming Commission announced on Friday that they would begin to accept bids for a license for a casino  to be opened at Hellinikon.
The gaming facility would be part of the 8 billion euro project to develop Athens’ vast former airport complex.
The announcement was published on Friday, in the EUR-Lex Official Journal of the European Union. The journal spells out the many terms of the gaming concession which the winner of the license must follow.
The winning bidder will retain the right to develop and operate the Integrated Resort Casino-IRC for a period of thirty years.
The casino, Europe’s first integrated casino resort and the first Hellinikon investment, will include gaming-integrated hotels, convention facilities, entertainment shows, theme parks, luxury retail and fine dining.
The casino complex is projected to occupy approximately 15,000 square meters of space in the Hellinikon area.
Interested parties will have 60 days to submit their applications for the only gaming license to be awarded. They must have a minimum equity capital of at least 200 million euros over the last three years, and annual revenue of at least 400 million euros for the same period.
Investment companies must hold funds of over 400 million euros in the same period.
The enormous project to develop the former Hellinikon airport includes a metropolitan park, shops, offices, sports and conference facilities, and luxury hotels.
Theme parks, museums, malls, cultural venues, health centers, educational and research facilities and a marina are also in the planning stages for the expanse of land outside Athens.
