Halkidiki Fire Reportedly Extinguished

After a treacherous 24-hour period, Greece’s fire brigade revealed some good news, announcing on Friday that “there is no active fire front in the area of Sarti, Halkidiki.”
However, two firefighting air crafts, two water-dropping helicopters, 70 fire engines and 160 firemen remain in the area for precautionary reasons.
Schools are closed in the village of Sarti, but many of the residents who left their houses on Thursday have returned to the village.
The fire broke out in a dense pine forest at 5:40 am local time on Thursday and spread quickly due to the strong winds that were blowing in the area.
