Cypriot Leaders to Meet, Discuss Reunification on October 26

In another attempt to jump-start reunification talks on the divided island, Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akıncı will meet on October 26, it was announced by the United Nations on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday, Akinci said he wanted the meeting to take prior to his trip to Turkey at the end of October.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a recent report to the Security Council that a peace deal to reunify Cyprus remains feasible, despite the collapse of talks between Akinci and Anastasiades at a Swiss resort last year.
Next week’s meeting could help build momentum toward a fresh round of reunification negotiations.
