The Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF) on Friday, June 1st, celebrated their 22nd annual anniversary gala: “Flavours of Greece” at the Universal EventSpace in Vaughan, Ontario.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds in support of Greek Language Education at the primary level throughout Canada. The Foundation has committed a significant amount of funding towards this goal by funding the purchase of new textbooks for students, and will continue to offer – free of charge – a very successful ‘Teacher Training Certificate Program’ which has been developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at York University.

The evening, which was extremely successful and had an attendance of over 750 people, raised over $200,000 net, for this cause.

Masters of Ceremonies was TV personality, John O’Hurley who entertained guests and shared stories from his recent filming experience in Greece.

Greek Celebrity Chef, Author & Entrepreneur – Christine Cushing, worked in collaboration with the culinary team to create a unique menu.

HHF President, Tony Lourakis recognized the following members for their notable achievements and contributions to the community.

The late, Nikolaos “Nick” Mirkopoulos was recognized as the 2018 HHF Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for his philanthropy and work in revolutionizing the film scene both in Toronto and abroad with members of the Mirkopoulos family accepting the Award on his behalf in an emotional and celebratory tribute; and

Dr. Helen Dimaras was presented with the HHF Outstanding Achievement Under 40 Award for her work, research and humanitarian efforts in helping children with a specific type of eye cancer.

The evening ended with a performance by popular Greek singer Michalis Hatzigiannis.

The Hellenic Heritage Foundation strives to identify and pursue projects that achieve the following goals:

1) To provide facilities and services that will create a fertile environment for Hellenic culture and heritage to complement Canadian society; and

2) To share the Hellenic culture and heritage with the broader Canadian community, reinforcing both the accomplishments and contributions of Hellenism.
