Prince Charles met the head of Greeceās Orthodox Church Archbishop Ieronymos on Thursday during the second day of his official visit to Greece.
Ieronymos briefed the heir to the British throne about the charity work of the Church and emphasized the ties between Greece and Great Britain. He gave a picture of the Virgin Mary as a gift to the visiting prince.
Charles recalled that he has visited Mount Athos and its monasteries several times. “And having done this, I have gained a special appreciation for the traditions of the Orthodox Church.”
He also spoke in appreciation of the Orthodox Church’s charitable work to “help the people in Greece who are in need at this time.”
“I am very impressed about the way you meet the needs of these people, whether they come from Greece or other countries,” said the prince in reference to the Church’s work among refugees and migrants.
