Varoufakis' Tenure 'Cost Greece €200B'

Thomas Wieser, former president of the Eurogroup Working Group. addresses the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece

The six-month reign of Yanis Varoufakis at the Greek Finance Ministry in the first half of 2015 cost the country about €200 billion ($246 billion), Thomas Wieser, former president of the Eurogroup Working Group has claimed.
Speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece on Friday, he described that estimate as “safe” and “conservative.”
The Austrian economist claimed the country had been close to a ‘Grexit’ on two occasions. First in 2012 and secondly in 2015.
In a recent interview, Wieser had also spoken about Varoufakis, whom he accused of being interested into “his own monologues and not in dialogue”.
At the Delphi Forum, Wieser also revealed that former U.S. President Barack Obama took an active role during Greece’s crisis.
The then Treasury Secretary Jack Lew would call the Eurogroup chairman at the time, Jeroen Dijsselbloem up to five times a week, he was quoted as saying by Kathimerini.
On Twitter, Varoufakis described the claims of what he called the “foreign and domestic troika” as “nonsense”.
