Greece Fails to Reach World Cup Finals after Goalless Draw Against Croatia

Greece were eliminated at the play-off stage of the World Cup after a goalless draw against Croatia in the Karaiskakis Stadium on Sunday night.
The Croats deservedly progress to the finals that will take place next Summer in Russia, following their impressive display three nights ago in Zagreb when they thrashed Greece 4-1.
In a game of few clear cut chances, Greece tried hard to break up a well-organized Croatian defense without success.
They were much improved from the side called an “unprecedented disgrace” by domestic media in the first leg – but never looked like mounting a comeback.
The Croats defended brilliantly and came close in scoring with Ivan Perisic hitting the post from 30 yards.
Greece should have had a penalty early on when Ivan Strinic fouled Zeca, but Croatia were instead awarded a free-kick.
Dimitrios Pelkas put the ball into an empty net late on, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
