Ten Greek Teachers to Head to Geneva for CERN Summer School Program

After the success of last year, 10 Greek teachers will participate in the innovative Summer School program entitled “Playing with protons” of the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva.
The CERN Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment aims to bring together teachers in elementary particle physics, so in turn they transfer their experience to both students and colleagues.
The summer school will take place from August 26 to 30 2017 at the CERN facility in Geneva, where ten teachers in public schools will have the opportunity, upon selection, to attend the program, which is implemented with a donation by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Referring to last year’s participation, the head of the project Dr. Angelos Alexopoulos, Education and Outreach Officer at CERN, spoke to Athens News Agency saying that, “the encouraging results of the previous year led to the decision to continue training teachers from Greece.”
“The ultimate objective is none other than to strengthen the students’ scientific knowledge,” he added.
This year’s Summer School will include lectures by members of CERN’s scientific community and representatives of institutions cooperating with the agency, both in Europe and the U.S.
