The hearing of the self-proclaimed billionaire, Artemis Sorras, who claimed to have enough money to pay off Greece’s debt, has been postponed until May 17 by a court in Patra, western Greece on Wednesday. Sorras was given an eight-year prison sentence last month for embezzlement.
According to ekathimerini, prosecutors have since lodged a multitude of charges against Sorras in connection with a large-scale scam whereby thousands of citizens were encouraged to pay for membership of a movement called Convention of Greeks in exchange for false assurances that all of their debts would be paid off.
Supporters came together outside the Patra courthouse on Wednesday in support of Sorras, who remains wanted along with his wife.
