Greek Police Bust Gang Trafficking Ancient Relics

ancient relics smugglingThe AFP has reported that a gang of antique smugglers was busted by the Greek police on Tuesday.
Thus far, following a nationwide raid Greek police have arrested 26 individuals in connection with smuggling antique relics. Of the arrests, six were foreigners, according to a police source in the port of Patras.
Authorities have announced that they are still looking for another 15 suspects at large who are also believed to have been involved with the smuggling ring.
The nationwide police raids uncovered a variety of stolen antiques ranging from ancient coins to ancient statues. The finds were unearthed near the village of Nemea in the Peloponnese region where they had been stashed away.
Until now the investigations have revealed that the gang was selling artifacts illegally in auctions that took place in the UK, Germany and Austria.
