German Min De Maiziere Wants Athens to Implement Dublin Regulations

German Interior minister Thomas de MaiziereOnce again the German Interior Minister, Thomas de Maiziere is insisting that it is time for Greece to implement the Dublin regulations, which states that migrants seeking asylum in an EU country from elsewhere must apply for asylum in the member state in which they arrive, according to the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper.
De Maiziere stated his reasons for his repeated calling on Greece to undertake the Dublin regulations because Greece had such horrific deficiencies in its asylum seeking process that since 2011 Germany has suspended deporting refugees back to Greece.
“The EU has since then provided financial and other support for Greek efforts, and given a lot of money to improve these conditions,” de Maiziere said to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
“That is why I would like to see the Dublin Convention implemented again,” he added.
So far this year Greece has seen 166,671 migrants arrive by sea according to the September 29 report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In 2015 the UNHCR reported that some 856,723 migrants arrived by sea to the shores of Greece.
