Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis secured a position on the podium for the 470 Dinghy Sailing medal race which will be held at 8:05 pm Greece time on Wednesday.
The Greek crew finished in second place in the 10th race in the Olympic regatta, took the second place overall and there are 29 penalty points separating them from the fourth crew.
The Greeks have 38 penalty points while the American team, who came fourth, have 67 penalty points. Therefore a medal is secured. What remains to be seen is whether the medal will be gold, silver or gold. This will be Greece’s fifth medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Greek water polo team disappoints
Contrary to the Greek sailing team performance on Tuesday, the Olympic water polo team lost 5-9 to Italy.
The water polo team had created high hopes after three good performances that led them to the quarter finals. However, in the game against Italy the Greek players were not up to par.
Now Greece will play against Spain on Thursday for placement in the 5-8 positions.
