Man Shoots Himself at Public Elderly Home in Athens

old_house1A 72-year-old man shot himself to death at a public home for the elderly in Athens early on Thursday; allegedly the man was facing financial problems.
The man was staying at the public home for the elderly in Athens for two months. Reportedly he was taken there by a friend because of financial woes, as he had said he had no place to stay. He was allowed to stay after a decision of the institution’s board.
According to reports, the 72-year-old shot himself with a shotgun. Allegedly the gun was hidden in his belongings that he brought with him. He was found dead at 7 am by a nurse who went to serve his breakfast. None of the residents had heard the shot at dawn.
Reportedly, the man left a suicide note saying, “I hold no one responsible, I’m not apologizing to anyone. Please don’t let my daughter know.”
