House Speaker Yiannakis Omirou called on the international community, on Sunday, to realize that now is the time to exert pressure on Turkey in order to abandon its intransigent stance on Cyprus, noting that so far we have not seen any concrete steps by Turkey besides its rhetoric support for a Cyprus solution.
Omirou who was speaking at the funeral of Savvas Savvides, a missing person until 2010 when his remains were found by the Committee on Missing Persons in a mass grave near Syhari – Bellapais (Kyrenia) and identified with DNA methods. The House Speaker said that instead of internal discussions Cyprus should mobilize on an international and EU level in order to reclaim possibilities for exerting pressure on Turkey and indicated that initiatives should be undertaken regarding the major issue of security.
