Over 700 migrants and refugees have arrived in Kastelorizo over the past few days, as traffickers have found a passage on the island. The small local community of Kastelorizo, which consists of about 200 people, has raised concerns regarding the issue.
Among the 740 refugees that are in Kastelorizo, over 300 are women and children. The accommodations that have been given to the refugees by the local municipality are decent, however, under no circumstance can it host such a large number, leading to further problems. The volunteers are battling daily to ensure the best conditions for the refugees.
According to information that was published today, most of the refugees will be transferred from Kastelorizo to Rhodes by a ship that travels to the specific line of islands.

About 60 refugees, from which more than 20 are children and infants, were rescued by a fisherman in Alexandroupolis this morning.
The fisherman, Panagiotis Karavetis, picked up the refugees with his boat 11 nautical miles away from Alexandroupolis, after he heard desperate calls for help by people crammed in a an inflatable boat. Shocked by the view, the man helped everyone get on his boat safely, and transferred them to the port of Alexandroupolis, accompanied by the coast guard.
As soon as the refugees arrived at the port, the local authorities of the Alexandroupolis municipality offered them clothes and food.
